• The dog that played Cujo in the movie was reported to be so friendly, they had trouble with him wagging his tail when he was supposed to be mauling someone to death. To overcome this, the crew had to tie his tail down. However, you can spot "Cujo" still happily wagging away when he corners one of the characters.

• When the dog playing Cujo is 'attacking' the car windows, he is actually trying to find his favorite ball.

• In his book On Writing, King has said he does not really remember writing the book as he was in a drug-induced stupor for the duration of its authorship.

• This story marks the first appearance (in terms of publication order) of Aunt Evvie Chalmers, who is also a minor character in The Body and who plays a significant role (in flashbacks) in Needful Things.

• The name "Cujo" was the alias of Symbionese Liberation Army member Willie Wolfe.

• On the Nickelodeon TV show Danny Phantom, Danny calls a ghost dog Cujo, due to the dog's continuous second-hand haunting of the Gray Family.
• In the Australian sitcom Kath & Kim, Kim' husband Brett has a dog named Cujo. The dog, although extremely friendly to Brett and most of the other characters, utterly hates Kim.
• On the Fox medical drama House, House refers to a patient's ill-behaved dog as "Cujo" when it turns out that the patient's severe medical complaint stems from a bite from said dog.
• In Friends episode 'The One Where Joey Dates Rachel' Joey asks Rachel if she ever saw Cujo and later on, Rachel watches the film with Joey. She says "I really hope this dog dies!" during the movie.
• In the British Sitcom Spaced, starring Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson, the dog that appears in the show (Colin, played by Aida the Dog) is refered to as 'Come on Cujo, or whatever your name is' by Pegg's charactor Tim Bisley in episode 5 of Season 1 - 'Chaos'.
• NHL goalie Curtis Joseph was nicknamed Cujo and has the picture of a dog on his goalie mask.
• On the short-lived comedy Greg the Bunny, Jimmy's new girlfriend's dog takes exception to Greg, even going to far as to rip the stuffing out of him, at which point, Greg turns to Señor Truck and exclaims, "Look what Cujo did to my back!"
• In the film Monkeybone starring Brendan Fraser, at the point when he is thrown in jail after Monkeybone stole his pass out of his coma, he meets up with Stephen King who remarks that Cujo stole his pass.
• On the Fox sitcom Married... With Children, episode 163 (S08E06) "No Chicken, No Check" the dobermann that chases Bud Bundy is referred to as Cujo by Kelly Bundy
